“It’s My Pleasure…”
Yes it is…
It’s my pleasure to serve you, and why shouldn’t it be?
And why shouldn’t it be your pleasure when someone thanks you? You’re alive, breathing the air, hearing the birds or whatever sounds stir your spirit. It’s a reminder of how blessed by some force that we are still here, enjoying this experience, this lifetime and making things better.
Whenever I hear someone being thanked at the end of an interview, either on the radio or tv and they say, “it’s my pleasure,” it strikes me and I get a little lift just from hearing it. My impression of the individual rises. Likewise when a service person offers it with sincerity. I’m thinking – “now here is someone I’d like to be around.”
When people thank you, do you say “you’re welcome” or the vastly more affirming, “it’s my pleasure”?
Is it? Can it be? When it clearly is, when the wonderful feeling that comes from giving lifts you up, do you say it?
Saying it is affirming it. Making it a habit is cementing the idea that there is pleasure in giving, helping, serving.
small adjustment: Start offering, "it’s my pleasure" when someone thanks you. See how it feels and notice how the other person feels. Please let me know how it’s working. I look forward to your comments.
note: click here if you’d like to say it in a different language.
