Don’t Forget – Remember
“My memory isn’t so good, but my “forget-ery” is really great.”
I remember hearing this once and it’s come back to mind (thanks memory!) when I think about speaking positively. Why is it that we always tell each other “don’t forget to ___?” We’re just reinforcing what not to do as opposed to using the positive “remember to ___.”
Just the other day I got an email with the title: “Here’s Your News and Offers E-mail — Don’t Forget to Book Travel at…”
I would venture it’s just habit. It’s what we hear all the time around us.
“Don’t forget to call me…”
“Don’t forget to pick up the dry cleaning…”
“Don’t forget to bring home your hat and gloves…”
“I’ll try not to forget to stop at the Post Office…”
“Let me write it down so I don’t forget…”
“I won’t forget…”
What if we simply replace “forget” with “remember?” Ahh, doesn’t that sound much better?…
“Remember to call me…”
“Remember to pick up the dry cleaning…”
“Remember to bring home your hat and gloves…”
“I’ll try to remember to stop at the Post Office…”
“Let me write it down so I remember…”
“I’ll remember…”
Repetition is excellent for cementing an affirmation. Instead of using the word “forget” over and over again, what if we simply switch to the more positive “remember?” Let the word “forget” be a flag to “remember.”
I can remember that !
small adjustment: Listen for “don’t forget” and replace it with “remember.” It’s a simple change that helps us develop the habit of speaking positively. Let me know how it’s working…

Love Love this! That old saying “sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me” is SOOOOOOO wrong!!! Words are so powerful! And what an impact it could make in our lives just to replace a few here and there as you suggested with the one above. Thanks for the reminder!
